Dinosaurs of the Yixian Formation

The Yixian Formation is a geological formation that dates back 126-124 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous in what is now Liaoning, Mainland China. The formation represented an extensively forested upland environment which is home to a wide range of dinosaurian fauna, some of which are one of a kind. The megafauna of this formation ranged from the gigantic titanosaur Dongbeititan, to the small basal therizinosaur Beipiaosaurus, to the strange perhaps sub aquatic ankylosaur Liaoningosaurus, to the feathered apex predator tyrannosauroid Yutyrannus. This geological formation is very notable for its extremely well preserved dinosaur specimens as well being one of the first places to yield evidence of feathers on non-avian dinosaurs.
